Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
Registration opens January 1, 2027 and is free through February 1, 2027. Late registration runs February 2, 2027 – February 15, 2027, with a late fee of $10.00 per entry. Registration closes February 15, 2027.
Who registers the team?
One contact person registers the whole team: usually a teacher or director, but a parent/guardian is welcome too. They list the members, the entries (who plays in what), and each member's parent/guardian, who then gets an email to sign the release forms online.
When do we send our music?
After you register, you get a confirmation email with your private team link. Use it to add each entry's pieces by February 15, 2027. Uploading score PDFs will be added there soon.
How is my division decided?
You choose it on the registration form. Teams with all members in grades K–8 may enter either the Junior or the Senior Division. Teams with any member in grades 9–12 enter the Senior Division, unless every 9th–12th grader on the team has played their instrument for 2 years or less. Then you may request the Junior Division, and we'll review the request.
Can young musicians from different schools play together?
Yes! Mixing grade levels, instruments, and schools is encouraged, but not required.
Is the Music Olympics in person or virtual?
The 2027 Music Olympics is in person only.
What if my instrument isn't listed?
Contact 808musicolympics@gmail.com to request approval.
How do coaching sessions work?
When you register, let us know if your team is interested. We'll email you to schedule up to two (2) free 60-minute coaching sessions with local musicians and educators, depending on available funding. Priority goes to young musicians who don't take private lessons.
What about the new games?
Note Naming and Music Trivia are coming in 2028. We're using this season to build and test them.
